A visitor at Camp Lewis who ventured out through the three miles of barracks between .he entrance en-trance of Camp Lewis and the remount re-mount depot would think that he had suddenly stepped from the army cantonment can-tonment into a vast horse and mule ranch in Wvoming or Montana instead of part of the national army. Everywhere one can see there are corrals, wagon bouses, hay sheds and quantities of equipment. The barracks bar-racks are one-story ranch bouses and the atmosphere is altogether one of rustic peace rather than preparations lor winning a war.
