Show I WIVES 'AND MOTHERS ORGANIZE While the boys are preparing to go to France, the wives and mothers of ,' the members of Battery B are organiz-! organiz-! Jng to do their part. They are to la-bor la-bor for tho welfare of tho boys, and, furthermore, are to labor for food conservation con-servation and economy. This Is an example of patriotism I which should bo followed by all our ' women. ' Those who are making the double sacrifice are worthy of our highest esteem, es-teem, and their devotion to country should bring a quickening seuse of duty to the many who have neither contributed loved ones nor their own I efforts to help make the United Slates I equal to the burden of carrying on the war. RESTAURANTS ARE IN LINE Ogden restaurant, keepers are planning plan-ning beefless and wheatless days, and they are to inaugurate a rule against waste. We have seen a porterhouse steak served on one order, and one-half of the meat wasted. We have seen squares of butter thrown Into the scraps In quantity large enough to represent a small fortune for-tune in a year. We have seen bread thrown away, enough to feed an army. Why should not the public co-operate with the restaurant man to bring about a saving of these losses? How can it bo accomplished? Smaller portions should be served. No one calling for a steak should receive re-ceive more than the average man would consume. If the first serving is not enough, let him order again. Place less butter before guests, and have them call for more, If necessary. Do likewise with bread. At first this may seem parsimonious, but as the patrons come to recognize the fact that the object is to avoid waste, all aenslblo persons will ;give their approval. |
