Show I. J. PARKER CHOSEN CHAIRMAN BY THE DEMOCRATS . W. J. Parker, former state senator, was chosen chairman of tho Democratic Demo-cratic county committee at the meeting meet-ing Saturday. Donald D. McKay of Huntsvillc was made vice-chairman and Ernest T. Spencer, nowspapoi -man, was chosen secretary. The delegates dele-gates present selected September 25 as tho date for the primaries and September Sep-tember 28 as the dale for tho county convention. At this convention, delegates dele-gates to the congressional and judicial convention will be selected. Delegates to the county convention of September 28 will be elected at the precinct primaries pri-maries on September 23. With the organization of the county committee, Democratic politics in Weber county are starting to tako vis-Iblo vis-Iblo form. To dato there have been several names announced as candidates candi-dates for nomination at the county convention for the various county offices. of-fices. The spirit among the Democrats thus far seems to have been one of confidence In the outcome but there are many wary ones who vote the Democratic ticket who have sounded a warning and declared tho Republicans intend to spring a strong surprise when the time Is ripe. A spirit of disinterestedness dis-interestedness has thus far characterized character-ized the bulk of Weber county citizens and many think that to divert the attention at-tention of the people, oven for a short time, from the war and the national Issue, would be unwise at this time. However, local politics this year will assume an uncommon phase and it Is safe to say that many .will be keenly Interested Just to study the effect of tho war on tho local Issues. Several Democrats have announced themselves as candidates for nomination nomina-tion for the various offices but the Republicans Re-publicans thus far have been comparatively com-paratively quiet. It is understood the present incumbents incum-bents of county offices will almost to a man offer themselves for re-nomination. County Attorney Charles Fan-made Fan-made his declaration today in announcing an-nouncing that his application to secure a commission in tho army had been reported unfavorably by the war de partment, John M. Child of Harrlsville and Joseph Jo-seph Peterson of Huntsvillc hac announced an-nounced their candidacies for positions on the board of county commissioners for the four and two "year terms respectively. res-pectively. Charles Kingston of Taylor, A. V. Huish, incumbent, and Gus Trorllcht have thrown their hats in the ring for the position of county treasurer and there might possibly be another announcement an-nouncement from an unexpected source within a few days for this position. |
