Show Germans Mack I Hospital and Kill Eight Americans WITH THE AMERICAN ARMY ON THE LORRAINE FRONT, Thursday, SepL 19. (By the Associated Press) Eight Americans wore killed when a clearing hospital wns hit by a Gorman shell Wednesday night. The enemy threw a large number of high explosive explo-sive projectiles Into tho region of the hospital on two successive nights and finally hit n large lent where gassed patients were confined. A large red cross against a field of white has been laid on the ground before be-fore tho hospital so that it could be observed by German aviators. Officers Offi-cers say that the Germans Avcrc deliberately de-liberately firing on tho hospital as there are no woods near which troops might bo concealed. Tho majority of the Americans killed in -the hospital were privates who had been gassed recently west of Vandloros. Several members of the medical corps were among the injured. Tho shell struck the hospital about midnight and there was great confusion confus-ion owing to tho darkness. Other shells continued to fall In tho near vicinity of the hospital. Officers speak in the highest tones of the heroic attempts of the attendants atten-dants to relieve the suffering of the wounded. Every member of the staff did all possible notwithstanding danger dan-ger from the other shells.
