Show MINI ATTEMPT TO ENTER A :i HOME AFTER PHONE CALL HAD DISCLOSED ABSENCE OF MAI An attempt was made to burglarize the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Snyder, Sny-der, ,923 Twenty-fourth street, at an early1 hour this morning, but was frustrated frus-trated by the awakening of Mrs. Snyder, Sny-der, who was alone in tho house. The intended crime was boldly planned. plan-ned. The man who tried to invade the home first called the woman on j tho telephone and asked her if her husband was at home. Mr. Snyder is a railway mail clerk and was out on a run at the time. Mrs. Snyder had gone to tho home of her mother, Mrs. Mary Farley, a short distance dis-tance away, and had just returned when tho tolophone rang. A stiange voice asked, "Is this No. 923?" Mrs. Snyder asked who was speaking, but the man would not give a name. He agked again if he had a certain telephone tele-phone number. Finally, when pressed to state his business, the man asked bluntly if Mr. Snyder was at home. He was informed in-formed that Mr. Snyder was away on his run as a mail clerk. Mrs. Snyder had been asleep for some time when she was awakened by a strange noise, and thought she heard a window screen slam. All was quiet for a few minutes and she was almost asleep again when she heard footsteps under her bedroom window. She turned on the light and looked through the window just in time to see a man vaulting the fence. The polico wero notified, Captain O. H. Mohlman and Sergeant Blackburn responding to the call. Upon investi-j gation, they found tho footprints of the man on the ground under the window win-dow and discovered a window screen had been torn loose. Evidently the screen had slipped and slammed against tho house when the thug was pulling it from its fasten-ings. |
