Show oo JOSEPH MYDEN OF ' WYOMING ARRESTED SALT LAKE. March IS. Charging that Joseph Hayden, principal witness for the prosecution in his recent trial before Judge John F. Tobin in police court, solicited and accepted a brlbo, the purpose of which was to influence Hayden's testimony in a rehearing of tho caso tomorrow on appeal, Harry Krupp yesterday secured tho arrest of Hayden, shortly after his arrival in Salt Lake from Wyoming. Hayden was arrested by Deputy Sheriff Joseph Turnbow, but was released on ball later lat-er In the day. According to tho sheriff's office, Krupp alleges that Hayden called him on the long distance telephone last Friday from Rock Springs, Wyo., and agreed to either absent himself from the trial, which opens tomorrow before Judge P. C. Evans in the district court, or to modify tbo testimony nc formerly former-ly gavo In tho police court hearing, which resulted in Krupp's conviction on three charges, speeding, passing to tho loft of a safety zone, and leaving tho scene of an accident without giving giv-ing his name and address. Krupp alleged that Hayden agreed to accept ?150 for tho purpose, and that he actually accepted $130 of tho amount yesterday at tho Sanitarium bathhouse in Third South street, whero ho had gone to take a Turkish bath upon his arrival In tho city. Tho money, in bills of large denomination, was carefully marked by Krups before ho gavo it to his former business partner, part-ner, it Is said, and was found in Hay- den's possession when ofDccrs, who wero waiting outside, entered and arrested ar-rested him. nn |
