Show Poor Widow Gives -Flowers to Wounded PARIS. Sept. 7 The "widow's mite" was exemplified In the act of an aged flower vendor whose stand was located near the Arc de Triomphe, when recently she unloaded all her variegated stock of roses, lilies, tulips and violets upon an American ambulance ambu-lance passing her stand loaded with American wounded from the" front and beinp driven to a Paris hospital in the vicinity. The ambulance was open and Jhe wounded men could be seon on hanging hang-ing stretchers, swayed to and fro by the motion of" the car. One young soldier sol-dier sat on the seat with the driver, his Injury being a shattered arm. With one arm free, he received the flowers, the essence of the old flower en-dor's, en-dor's, heart. Thero was little delay. Everyone undor'stood tho incident. The soldier's face showed he was in pain 'out tho aged woman's offering caused him to forget his suffering and he trailed. Pedestrians looked on with ' approbation. |
