OTTAWA, Ont July 6. The Canadian Can-adian house of commons early today adopted ihe resolution offered by Premier Pre-mier Borden passing to second reading read-ing the bill for compulsory military service. Exciting scenes marked the taking of tho vote which stood 118 for conscription con-scription and 55 against. The vote gave tho government about 20 more votes than it usually polls on important questions. This was tho result of a considerable number num-ber of English-speaking Liberals breaking away from the leadership of Sir Wilfrid Laurier an'd joining with Premier Borden in support of conscription. con-scription. Referendum Proposal Defeated. Before the bill was sanctioned Sir Wilfrid Lauricr's proposal that the opinion of the people on conscription should be tested by a referendum, was defeated by a majority of 49.
