Show I Chester Hoff Easily Blanks the Seals in the Second Game of the Series I SEALS SIT OUT I BY SALT LAI H I Chester Hoff Performs Feat H for Bees Who Also Have B Luck in Third Inning. H SAN FRANCISCO. May 9. Bill Bj Bernhard shot another southpaw at H the Seals today and they curled up HJ and played dead. Chester Hoff shut H them out, just as "Rube" Evans did H the. day before, and ho did It so eas- H ily that it looked liko a joke. Hoff H had a lot more margin to work on than Hj did Rube, for tho Seals booted and Hj miscued until he got a big lead. Hj Fitzgerald hit the first ball pitched Hi by Hoff for a doublo and it looked as Hj if tho Seals would do somothing, but H the others could not keep up tho at- H tack. Fitz hit again in tho eighth and K got around as far as third, but he died ; B there. J Hj The Bees had some luck in scoring j their two tallies in tho third, for a Hj pop fly by Rath fell safe, scoring Han- H nan, and Rath registered a little later m when Baker had a passed ball. Hj Steen was lifted In tho sixth after Hj Hannah had pounded him for a double Hj with two men out, and Dougherty, a j young left hander, was given a chance. Hj He looked only so-so. H Three runs were scored in that sixth K Inning, but as Steen had put Hannah K on base that run was charged against Hj him. Dougherty got along all right Hi In the seventh and eighth, but his own m error helped make tho run that scored j in tho ninth. B When one team Is hitting the ball B and the other is not the hitless team K looks bad. The Seals are liable to ' como back, as they did last week, and i B show the Salt Lakers some real base- Hj ball, but on the first two tilts of tho K series the new leaders havo looked B liko tho bettor ball club. B Bill Bernhard is demonstrating that B a ball club can be piloted into first B place without the manager fretting B and stewing, though tho visible sup- B ply of peanuts Is rapidly diminishing.
