Show Picket Maintained About Old Dominion Mine Try to Hold Back Men. DEPUTIES SWORN IN Clifton Mines Close Over Five Thousand Miners Quit Tie-up Is Complete. GLOBE, Ariz., July 2. Foreman Richard Mayno of tho Old Dominion mine was stoned by striking minora when he attemptod to enter tho mine this morning, tho first day of tho striko called by tho International Union Un-ion of Mine, Mill and Smelter Workers and tho Metal Mine Workers' union. Tho strikers maintained a picket about tho raino and resisted efforts of pumpmen and electricians to reach tho property and prevent tho mlno from flooding. Three pumpmen later forced tholr way through tho picket line and, with the aid of mine olllcials already on tho ground, got tho pumps to working. An extra force of doputies have been sworn in by tho sheriff. Tho Miami Copper mines at Miami also aro closed as a result of tho striko. Several thousand strikers and striko sympathizers assembled early today at tho gates of tho Old Dominion, but no further violence has been reported. Sheriff Armor has sworn in 150 special spe-cial deputies and mino olllcials havo made no effort to operate. Striking Miners CLIFTON. Ariz., July 2. Mining operations op-erations in the Clifton-Morenci-Metcalf copper mining district closed today when more than 5000 miners, mechanics mechan-ics and laborers quit work. The tie-up of tho mines was said today to -be complete. Sheriff Slaughter of Greenlee county has sworn in eighty deputies at Mor-encl Mor-encl to guard properties of the Detroit Copper company.
