Show CLEGG WINS fN SUPREME COURT Salt Lake, June .".0. The supreme court handed down an opinion yesterday yes-terday upholding what is general; know n as the new justice of the j peace law. The law was attacked up-1 on several grounds by Justice of th.-Peace th.-Peace L R. Martineau, Jr., recently, through prohibition proceedings against the county commissioners, who had appointed Brlgham Clegg as justice of tbe peace under the provisions pro-visions of the act. The principal allegation was that the law changed the salarv of an of-Icer, of-Icer, during his tenure, in that it j changed the office from a fee office to ,1 salaried otfice thus cutting down the earnings. It also was contended con-tended that the act had not gone into effect at the time o' the appoint-1 ment of Clegg, A further contention ' - that it was special legislation. The Btipreme court rules against, the petitioner n all salient points, and upholds the law, as well as the action of the county commissioners in appointing Clegg. |
