TO OEOEIITES i Consumption o ten feet of water, or three million gallons, from the smaller reservoir last Tuesday night, which was far in excess of known needs and uses, still remains a mys-, mys-, tery, but it is strongly suspected 1 that a fifty per cent leak occurred somewhere. Frank L. Hincs, former water superintendent su-perintendent of Salt Lake, and Commissioner Com-missioner Miles L. Jones have just completed a superficial inspection of the water system and Mr. Hines, in concluding the inspection said he was satisfiqd a pitometer tost "would surprise the natives." Mr. Hinos said Ogden, like many other cities, loses 25 to 55 per cent of the water supply through leaky mains, defective service pipes, bad plumbing and "water hogs" who waste the aqua pura. One night in Salt Lake, he said, in the wee sma' hours, when the residents were not using water, there was a consumption of 882,000 gallons, of which 95 per cent was wasto. Tests now in progress in New York City show a leakage of millions of gallons a day, said Mr. Hines, and recent re-cent tests In various cities show the same proportionate resulL Mr. Hines will probably co-operate with Commissioner Jones and Uio other oth-er officials In correcting, as soon as practicable, the cause of tho onor-mous onor-mous waste of Tuesday night. oo |
