Show BUTTE SOCIALIST PLANT WRECKED Dynamite Explosion Destroys I Interior and Blows Front of Building Into Street. Butte, Mont , June 11. Police and fire officials were investigating here today the cause oi an explosion which wrecked the plant of the Butte So- J ciallst, a weekly newspaper, early this morning. The use of dynamite was indicated In that a patrolman who reached the scene a few minutes later declared that he smelled the fumes of giant powder. From the debris it was Judged that the explosion occurred in the rear, where a gallery' was torn loose, smashing the machinery below. The force of the explosion was great enough to blow the front of the structure struc-ture into the street and to damage the upper part of the two-story structure struc-ture which was used as a rooming house A brief panic ensued among the occupants, but none was hurt. While the nature of the explosion has not been determined, Patrolman Olson, one of the first on the scene, declared that he smelled giant powder smoke. The interior of the building was wrecked and the front was hurled into tho street. A gallery at the rear was blown loose and fell on machine ry below. The police believe that the explosion took place In the rear of the structure The upper story of the building, occupied oc-cupied by a rooming house, was not badly damaged. So far as is known, no one was hurt. An Investigation Is In progress. |
