Show DEUTSCHLAND LAIS MAIL New London, Conn., Nov. 2. Bags of mail brought across the seas by the German undersea merchantman Deutschland which arrived yesterday were brought ashore today. Shortly before noon, Mayor E. E. Rogers, President M. T. Miner of the Chamber of Commerce, and about fifty members constituting a committee, commit-tee, wailed upon Captain Koenig. There was a conference pn tho pier and the captain accepted an Invitation to a dinner to bo given by tho chamber, cham-ber, tho timo to bo fixed later. Tho party was then divided into groups of five and each went on the submnrlno and looked It over. Captain T. A. Scott of tho Scott Wrecking company, sent a diver down alongside of the Deutschland and -he reported that thero woro fourteen small holes in tho anchor bulkhead. These were probably made whon tho anchor dented the shell of the craft. The holes had caused some leakage on the trip over. |
