Mrs. Alice Bailey, wife of Bert Bailey of the Sixth ward, committed suicide by hanging while suffering from temporary mental derangement de-rangement about noon today. Mrs. Bailey had been 111 for some time, suffering suf-fering from a nervous breakdown. She was, however, believed to be recovering. recover-ing. A short time before her death her brother, Daniel Kirkwood, had been in the Bailey home talking to Mrs. Bailey and at that time she gave no intimation intima-tion of intending to take her life, i After Mr. Kirkwood left Mrs. Bailey went into the bathroom, and as she remained a long time the children tried to open the door, which was found to be locked. They called "to Mrs. Annie Nelson, who was washing In the basement, and word was sent , to Mr. Kirkwood at his home. On his return he found it necessary to take the door off its hinges and on entering, enter-ing, Mrs. Bailey's body, with life extinct, ex-tinct, was found suspended from a cord from a clothes hook. Mr. Bailey was summoned from Bailey Brothers' store and the sheriff, was notified and went to the home. Dr. W. T. Hasler had previously been 1 summoned, but was unable to resuscitate resusci-tate the unfortunate woman, who, in his opinion, was dead when the body was found. Mrs. Bailey was 35 years of age, daughter of R. C. Kirkwood and Mrs. Eliza Kirkwood, who, with her husband hus-band and five children and several brothers and sisters, survive her. Mrs. Bailey was an estimable worn- -1- an, devoted to her husband and chll- : I dren, and great sympathy is felt for v them in their sad bereavement. 1 1 |
