The official communication issued tonight reads: North of tho Aisne, after artillery preparation, our troops captured this morning a small wood south of the Bois Des Buttes (region of Ville-au-Bois). In the Argonno our heavy batteries destroyed a German post and shattered shat-tered nn enemy trench to the extent of about fifty meters. In tho sector of Four de Paris, at hill 285, the Germans Ger-mans exploded a mine. Our barrier fire prevented the enemy from occupying occu-pying tho crater, the southern edge of which we organized. West of the Meuso there was an intense bombardment at hill 304, in the region of Esnes and Cumleres. East of the Meuso tho day was relatively rel-atively calm. In the Woevre a very violent bombardment occurred in the sector of Moulainvillb, but there was no Infantry action during the course of the day. One of our long range guns effectively bombarded the Heu-dicourt Heu-dicourt station. In Lorraine, to the southeast of Badonvlllers, the Germans, after an Intense bombardment, delivered about noon a strong attack against a salient which formed our line at La Chapel-otte. Chapel-otte. The attack was completely repulsed re-pulsed Some enemy groups which had gained a footing in the northeast part of tho salient were driven out in the afternoon and in part exterminated extermi-nated by our fire. We took about fifteen prisoners one of them an of-fioer. of-fioer. Aviation Near Vaaquoia an enemy r aeroplane, compelled to land Inside his lines, after a combat, was destroyed des-troyed by our cannon. In the region of Verdun one of our pursuit aeroplanes aero-planes brought down a German aeroplane, aero-plane, which fell op Cote du Poivre, about fifty meters from our trenches. A third enemy machine brought down by one of our pilots fell In the Forges wood. Finally a Fokker, fired at pointblank hy one of our aviators, plunged down In the region of Hatton-chattel. Hatton-chattel. Last night one of our dirigibles dropped ten shells of 155 millimeters and six shells of 220 on the Conflans station. The Belgian official communication reads: "In the sector of Dixmudo there j was an animated artillery action during dur-ing the night and morning. Calm prevailed on the rest of the front." |
