Show LAWYER MAKING GREAT FIGHT George F. Stackpole Holding His Own Against Attack of Anthrax Not Out of Danger. New York, Oct. 14. George F. Stackpole, 1&o 71-year-old lawyer who has made a remarkable fight against an attack of anthrax during the past six days, was today Teported by his physician as showing continued Improvement Im-provement Mr. Stackpole is not entirely en-tirely out of danger, however, for the considerable amount of poison in his system has greatly weakened his heart action and stimulants have been necessary for the past 48 hours. When Stackpole awoke today he Immediately asked for the details of the world's Beries baseball game, and then remarked that he had not 'made a home run yet." Dr. O'Neal Recovering. San Francisco, Oct 14. A complete com-plete recovery from an anthrax infection infec-tion simply by local application of antiseptics to tho infected area of tho arm without any serum treatment whatever, was reported today here. Dr O'Neal was bitten by a tlea on tho arm last month while conducting an autopsy on a cow which had died of anthrax, commonly called lumpy Jaw. Later the anthrax carbuncle appeared ap-peared on the arm. He displayed the Infected arm to colleagues at the time. Dr. Carl F. Meyer, of the University of California, said there was no doubt but that Dr. W. R. O'Neal had contracted con-tracted the disease, but probably in a light form. Dr. Helper Improving. Benton City, Iowa, Oct. 14. Dr. for eleven days has been sufforing from anthrax, has not given up hope of recovery, though nearly one-fourth of tho back of his nock has been removed re-moved In the operative treatment of the disease. A ligament that binds the spinal cord was removed yesterday. yester-day. Dr Holper thinks he was infected by a mosquito bite. The treatment given him consists of constmt bathing of the wound in a strong antiseptic and internal remedies. |
