Show GREAT CROWD AT CAVELL FUNERAL British Nurse Who Was Exe-. Exe-. cuted at "Brussels Honored by High and Low. Loudon. Oct. 29, 10:30 a. m. A. ser vice at St. Paul's cathedral today in memory of IVIiss Edith Cavell. the British nurso who was executed in Brussels, was attended by a throng which recalled the funeral of Lordv Roberts at tho cathedral almost a year ago. Before S o'clock a great crowd stood shivering in the first cold fog of the season awaiting the opening of the doors. Shortly after 10 o'clock signs bearing the words "Church Full" were hung at all tho doors except ex-cept thc one reserved for ticket holders. hold-ers. Wounded Soldiers at Funeral. Conspicuous among thc crowd which waited patjcntly In thc gloomy fog untl lthe doors were opened was a large number of wounded soldiers, attended by Red Cross nurses. The sombro clothing of the congregation which packed the great edifice was relieved here and thcro by spots of color of the uniforms of soldiers and sailors when military and naval dignitaries digni-taries look their places. The only other scats reserved wero for the lord mayor, tho diplomatic corps of the entente allies, and six hundred of Miss Cavoll's fellow nurses. Tho servico was begun with thc "Dead March" played on the organ. Then came "Abide With Me" by the First Life Guards band Except for tho Lord's prayor and tho reading of one lesson, the service was entirely musical, no sermon being delivored. 00 |
