Show MISS TANSER HELD j TO GRAND JURY New York, March 25 Miss Rao Tanser. who filed a $50,000 damage suit against James V. Osborne former for-mer assistant district attorney, of New York, for alleged breach of prom ise to marry, was held today for the action of the Krand Jury on the charge of using the mails to defraud United States Commissioner Hough ton announced that he would hold Miss Tanser following her examination examina-tion today The same bond of $5000 furnished when the charge was preferred pre-ferred several days ago. was ordered Miss Tanser Breaks Down. .Miss Tanser burst into tears when the commissioner announced his detention de-tention Her three sisters, Rose, Dora and Ruth and David Slade, her lawyer, attempted to cheer her, but failed. An intimation that the government would investigate the law firm of Slade and Slade, attorneys for the young woman, because of certain features fea-tures of the case, was contained in the argument of David Slade. Commisslonei Houghton in his decision de-cision reviewed the testimony. Only a Solomon, he said, eould thoroughly understand the case, but he thought ih" L-overnment had produced sufficient suffi-cient evidence to warrant ordering the defendant held. Evidence in Case. Mis Tanser had contended that James W Osborne had courted hor under the name of Oliver Osborne A witness had Identified James JUT. Os-borne Os-borne as the man who registered at a hotel in Plalntield, N J. with Miss Tanser as "Oliver Osborne and wife." Commissioner Houghton In reviewing the testimony pointed out that it showed that Oliver Osborne wears glasses, while James W. Osborne does not He pointed out also that Miss Tanser's writing on the bail bond and that on the letters to Mr. Osborne Os-borne on which the fraud charge Is ba-sed, were identical. |
