Kaiser and Chris Simon, of the executive committee of the Boxelder Commercial club having charge of ar rangements for the Peach day cele bration in Brigham City on September Septem-ber 9. are In Ogden today stirring up interest in the event They stair that the Ogden Rapid Transit will run trains to Brigham every 16 minutes on Peach day and two special trains will be operated by the Oregon Short Line. leaving here at 9.15 and 111 o'clock the morning of the big event The Boxelder Commercial club hai issued the following statement: "Peach day was inaugurated eleven years ago by the Boxelder Commer cial club of Brigham City and it has been celebrated every year since. 'i his day has done more than an thing else to advertise the splendid iruit grown in that locality. Who' doeb not know that the best flavored peach is grown In Brigham and vicinity vi-cinity in addition to this, Boxelder! county has become famous for Its enormous and splendid apple crop. "Last year we shipped out of Brig ' ham 4G7 carloads of Elberta peaches! for the eastern markets. 67 carloads of berries and small fruits. This year we will about double the pro ductlon. The cannery ua.?d this year, 200,000 pounds apricots and 160.-000 160.-000 pounds were shipped out; 28 000 berry crates were rilled and disposed of this early summer. Besides what fruit is shipped, a great deal ic being be-ing hauled to market by peddlers and others. "The peaches this year are very large, the color is excellent, and the indications are that the crop will be a large one. The market looks very-favorable. very-favorable. One of our many shippers has orders booked now for 180 cars of peaches. "Peach day this year will be held September 9, right in the middle ot the peach season, and our visitors will have an excellent chance of seeing see-ing our methods of handling this Immense Im-mense crop. "Arrangements are being made for a large display of fruit peaches, ap pies, etc, from all over the county. This prize fruit will be auctioned oft at ?, p m. in the afternoon, in small parcels Besides this there will bo booths arranged at dil'i'orent locations in the business center, where fruit can be bought in packages of a size ; that can be conveniently carried on i tho cars. "This year there will be a booth in the city park where free peaches will be served to all, and in addition to this the Ladles' Civic Improvement club of Brigham will distribute, from a special booth, 6000 neat cartoons filled with the choicest of peaches These will be packed by members or the Boxelder Commercial club, thus insuring onlj the very best. One carload of melons has been arrangeo for and will be distributed free to Isltors." |
