Show oo REPUBLICAN PARTY OF UTAH. Protection for the whole country and a defense of American laborers were two doctrines reaffirmed at the Republican congressional convention In Salt Lake yesterday. The platform plat-form as (idopted is as follows: "To the Republican congressional conventions of the First and Second congressional districts of Utah: "Your respective committee? on resolutions and platform, meeting conjointly, respectfully submit for the action of the respective conventions the following platform : i "The Republicans of Utah, In con gressional convention assembled, reaffirm re-affirm our allegiance to the time-honored time-honored principle of protection to American industries. We indorse the attitude of our representatives in hoth the house and in the United States senate on every tariff measure that has come before the American congress. Every product of Utah is entitled to the same protection afforded af-forded to the products of other parts of the United States. In this respect, the Republican party differs from its Democratic opponent, for while the representatives of the latter stand for I protection to the industries of their respective districts, the Republican party favor6 protection to every American industry whether specially advantageous to our own state or to our 6lster states. "We heartily iudorse the platform adopted by the Republican national convention of 1912. and especially those planks of that platform in ref eronce to good roads, expansion of the parcel post, and of rural credits for the farmers of the nation. . "We favor the construction and I maintenance of good roads and pledge, cur congressional nominees to work for the passage of legislation that will effect a co-operation of the federal fed-eral government and the various states in the construction and maintenance main-tenance of a system of national banks. "We point with pride to the work I originated by the Republican part I In the reclamation of our semiarld lands and pledge our nominees to continue this good work, and to support sup-port measures having for their purpose pur-pose the co-operation of the state and national governments in further development de-velopment of irrigation in the various vari-ous states". "We denounce the combination ot Democrats and no-called 'Progressives' in this state as an attempted union ot parties who have nothing in common com-mon except their lust for office and hatred of the Republican party oi Utah "We also denounce the return to the 'spoils system' b the national Democratic administration. "We appeal to every citizen who believes that American laboring men should not bo compelled to compete with underpaid labor of other lands and that the business of our own nation Is entitled to a fair return on the amount invested, to unite with 01 in electing to congress men whose i party platform, as well as private i opinion, will not be opposed to the protection of the products of our state and nation." |
