Show HOV TO CLEAN UP THE CITY With the crusade for a cleaner city on. our citizens are beginning to sit un and take notice, and suggestions are being made, of which is contained con-tained in this letter to The Standard "Editor Standard: In reading about ! the efforts of our city olfinals to have I a cleaner city the thought comes to me that we ought to have a way provided pro-vided b) which we all could co operate with the city 1 find In my own ex-, ex-, periencc that it is very hard to net the sanltar work done, and I have n doubt that others hae had the same experience. "To Illustrate- Mj chicken coop needed cleaning T went to a man that I thought would do it. He said he would, but he didn't Two others promised but also failed to show up. Wc finally got It cleaned and the dirt read to haul away. Here we had the same trouble. No less than four people peo-ple promised to take it awaj but did I not Then, after ten days, we managed man-aged to get a man to haul It away Three hours would have done the whole thing. It was not on account of cost as no price was asked or made, I simply asked them to do thp work and expected to pay what ever they asked, but could not get It done 'There are people who keep one or two horses The manure is allowed t to collect until there Is a load and I then some farmer hauls It away, but all this time there is a breeding place for flies The city lolls us to provide a place where it is protected, but how-can how-can we9 They say "screen it," that is only an expense without one particle par-ticle of good, as it would be Impoa slMe to keep flies out of a place of that kind If it vns ever opened. "Now why can nnt the city provide a wr.gon for that purpose, preferably free bul If that la noi advisable at this time, make nominal charge, evi n though it Is aa much as a private parly would charge bul have it done? "At present no matter how much wp might desire to be sanitary we can not do it I believe If the city would maintain a wagon or two for this kind of work and charge a nominal price for the work there would be no cause lor complaint, and we would have a cle;:n ell. Eventually have the city furnish this sen ice free. The city tarnishes free police protection, Ore protection, cleans the streets and has a sanitary Inspector but not sanitary protection.
