Show UTAH II GIVER A BIG PliTi: Logan. July 22. Dr. E. H Walters, chemist in the United States bureau of soils at Washington, D. C, was a visitor here today bringing with him the good news that Dave Farrel, a graduate of the Utah Agricultural college col-lege and native of thl6 valley, has been appointed to the position oi agriculturist in charge of demonstrations demonstra-tions on reclamation projects, a new and important office created on July of this year by the United States department de-partment of agriculture, for the purpose pur-pose of promoting, specific agricultural agricul-tural industries on reclamation projects pro-jects The projects which will be un der the direct charge of Mr. Farrel number 26 and are scattered over the following states: Utah, New Mexico. California, Arizona. Colorado. Nevada, Wyoming, Nebraska, Oregon, Washington, Wash-ington, Idaho. Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota Mr. Farrel's office will be in Washington, Wash-ington, D. C, from where he will direct di-rect his assistants in their demonstrations demonstra-tions and advisory work among the farmers living under the irrigation projects The office of which he is the head will seek to increase the efficiency of the farmers and aid them in disposing of their crops projects pro-jects In this work they will be in close co-operation with the bureau of plant and animal industry and office of markets ?nd rural organization. While interested in Mr Farrel's promotion, farmers of various sections sec-tions in the state will be equally interested in-terested in knowing that this office has been created, thus insuring more expert advice for those who live under un-der any irrigation project The owners own-ers of land under the strawberry pro- i jeet will be among the first to benefit bene-fit by an appropriation of the recent congress to promote better agriculture agricul-ture under these works This new appropriation amounts to $40,000 for this year. Before receiving this appointment Mr. Farrel was connected with the office of western irrigation agriculture as an irrigation expert The new of- 1 fice reaches him. therefore, by wa of a promotion, he having been con nected with that work since graduation gradua-tion at the Agricultural college In 1908. While at the college, he did much exceptional work, being an excellent ex-cellent student and editor of the col lege paper for two years Dr. Walters who brought the news of Mr. Farrel's promotion to town, 1b also a graduate of the Agricultural college, where he was assistant chem 1st for several years after graduation in 1909 While engaged at this work he was appointed an assistant In the department at Washington, where he is now located. At present he is on a few weeks' vacation much of which time he 'intends to spend with his mother, who resides in this city i |
