Show OFFICERS CALLED 10 IN DOWN SUPPOSED MURDERER Short lv after 3 o'clock this afternoon after-noon word was received at the sheriff's sher-iff's oi'fice that a murder had been committed in the vicinity of Farm-ington, Farm-ington, in Davis county, and that the murderer and his wife, traveling with a rig, had hurriedly started north in the direction of Ogden. The Davis county olllcers requested the officers of Weber county and Ogden City to lend their aid Acting quickly in response to the request for aid. Deputy Sheritfs J. L. ilobson and Charles Ellsworth accompanied accom-panied by Detectives Robert Burk and Robert Chambers, left the city in an automobile, hoping to intercept the man before he reaches Ogden. Later information received was to the effect that a man was found hanging hang-ing to a beam in the barn of C. A. Sechrlet at Farmington about 9 a, m. today by a youth named Melvin Petty, Pet-ty, who immedlatelj informed the Davis county sheriff. Accompanied by other officers, the sheriff went to the place and cut down the body, which had been strung up with a log chain They found that the head of the dead man had been chopped in several places with an ax, which led them to reject the suicide theory that the first sight of the body had given them An examination of the man's clothing cloth-ing brought to light papers which Identified him by the name of John F Morrow. He had been seen early in the morning watering his team, which was attached to an ordinar7 dump wagon, such as is used in construction con-struction work and from this it was judged that he whs employed by one ol the compauie3 working between Salt Lake aud Ogden. After a brief Investigation of the affair, the sheriff was informed that a man had been seen driving awa from the barn Just before the body was discovered and a posse at once started in pursuit. The officers caught up with the man, who was also in a construction wagon, and who was accompanied by his wife. As they neared the wagon, it was noticed no-ticed that the man had a rifle across his knees, and, when they endeavored to Interview him, he got the drop on them, refused to answer and whipping up his horses, proceeded toward Ogden. Og-den. The Ogden officers were then called on. Word from Farmington received late this afternoon was to the effect that a jury had been impaneled and was trying to determine whether the tragedy was a suicide or a murder. The people of Farmington and the nearby towns are greatly excited over the affair The man was caught at Roy and brought to the sheriff's office in Ogden. Og-den. j oo |
