Show PL1 CITY PEOPLE CELEBRATE Oi ANNIVERSARY The people of Plain City yesterday celebrated the 55th anniversary of the settlement of that town, with a program of music, recitations and speeches, a banquet, a baseball game and a grand ball. Plain City was settled in 1859 by a party of pioneers, the members of which were. Joseph Skeen, William Raymond, Joseph Robertson, William Van Dyke, Thomas Singleton, George Musgrave, Charles Nell and Daniel Collett. There were over 500 persons pres ent at the celebration and among the speakers of the day were Henry Maw, Joseph B. Geddos of Preston. President Presi-dent L. W. Shurtliff, James Wother-spoou Wother-spoou and John V. Bluth, Bishop Archie Ar-chie McFariancl of West Weber, J. S. Carver and Bishop George W. Brain-well, Brain-well, The Neil orchestra furnished a fine program of music during tbe day and evening and vocal solos were furnished by Leona Ipson, Mr. and Mrs. Geddes and several other members mem-bers of the Plain City ward. An especially es-pecially appreciated feature of the program in the afternoon was the sjnging of an old Mormon hymn, by tho Plain City ward choir. The banquet was served on tables around which were seated 150 persons at a time and other entertainment was provided for the others while they were waiting. The baseball game provided considerable consid-erable entertainment. It was a five-Inning five-Inning game and the contesting teams were from the Ogden Third ward and Plain City. Plain City won, the score being 6 to 3. The dance in the evening crowded the pleasures of the day in a most agreeable manner and the whole celebration cele-bration was pronounced a splendid success. The committee that arranged ar-ranged the affair was composed of Messrs. Lyman Skeen, Stephen Knight and John Maw and Mesdaraes Thompson, Thomp-son, Annie Maw, Delia Carver, L. Skeen and Mary Thomas. Joseph Carver, Nathaniel Parmer, Mrs. William Wil-liam Parmer nnd Mrs. Cora RIchey formed the program committee and the members of the reception committee com-mittee were Henry Maw, Wiliram Carver, Mrs. Read and Mrs, William Kerr. Today the school children of Plain City will be entertained with a banquet, ban-quet, program and dance. |
