Show BIG DAY AT THE HERMITAGE GROUNDS I The crowd that spent the day at the Hermitage yesterday was the largest In the history of the resort. Bven the big Ogden da of last year was eclipsed Plenty of sports and amusements! had been provided bv the Klks and the shows were liberally patronized. The athletic events began with the1 Purplclhon. or race from the mouth of the canvon to the Hermitage grounds. Clifford Smith won In 18 minutes and Adrian Dalebout and Earl j Preshaw finished second and third respectively. Several cases of eggs were used by marksmen In their attempts to hit the colored doder. The big event of the day was the wrestling match between Harbertson and Met arroll which was won by Harbertson who secured two straight falls. The first was in 31 minutes of fast wrestling and the second cams easier In seven minutes. A 'op hold secured on the big fellow fel-low brought submission when Met arroll ar-roll was unable to break the painful grip. A head and bodv hold did the work the second time. Although Met arroll was much heavier heav-ier and larger than his opponent, he was unable to use his strength to such good advantage as Harbertson who made good use of his past experlenc" and knowledge of the game There was a good crowd within the tent and the excitement of the match kept the tans on their feet throughout the exhibition ex-hibition Brig Harbertson and John Preshaw wti stled to a draw In the 10-min-ute preliminary'- |
