Show I 1 OUR BOYS one of the most prominent business men of ogden makes a pr protest otest against the young avs boys of this city frequenting the pool rooms in a letter lettel to this paper he calls upon us to help stop the evil that he knows of many instances of boys malting the pool rooms their club rooms Is set forth in the following last year when tho the victorious football t team secured a new sweater apiece they obtained them hem at a poolroom on washington avenue since then and for a long time before when there was to bo be a mooting meeting of any kind of the football team it was their cus tont to gather at this poolroom pool room last friday evening whon when our public spirit ed principal prof cross banqueted the boys at the reed hotel botel they the met at this poolroom pool room to 0 o go in a body to the banquet hall this thia la Is all the young men of our olty city can do as they have no better meeting place it is as good as Is provided by their elders I 1 will leave it with tho the taxpayers of tha th community though if it is a wise thing and a saving proposition to secure no better place for the rising generation to congregate and talk over their victories defeats and other things it Is well known that when a young man gets the pool habit fastened faten fd upon him his usefulness as a future citizen of our glorious republic is lessened and in some cases entirely ruined and instead stead of being an upright and energetic citizen as god intended him to be he becomes a tax on the resources of the state dould could not arrangements be made to have a mooting meeting place in the upper room of the carnegie Carne gio library or cannot enough of our public spirited citizens get together and hire a room in which the young mm men of our town can feel at home and gather for occasions like those mentioned above I 1 the pool rooms may bo be proper places for men who enjoy tho the diversion hut but our school boys should be do de their thear minds and body b by y study or outdoor play the suggestion that part of the carnegie library bo be fitted up for the boys as a club room Is one which should be acted upon u pon it the privilege is granted by the carnegie library board then the prosperous men of this city should join in making the club rooms so attract attractive tave that no boy would prefer the pool rooms the citizens of a community cannot lie be too watchful or solicitous tous over tho the welfare of their boys the bo boys ys of today are the men of tomorrow we should b be e immeasurably more careful 1 in building character than in building business blocks mansions or cathe brals and yet how many thoughts thought 6 do we give ta the structures of brick and mortar and how many to the tabernacles in which are the souls soula of boys |
