Show CURRENCY commission FAVORED BY FOWLER washington april 22 chairman fowler of the house committee on banking and currency yesterday submitted to the house the report of that committee favoring the creation of a currency commission the report states that since its organization under the sixtieth congress the commission has been steadily considering the financial and currency question and the various measures that have been referred to it that it has held extended hearings and has had before it a large number of the leading economists of the country representatives of commercial bodies and bankers from all sections and has received recommendations ions from thousands of persons and from every part of the united states the overwhelming of opinion so adduced continues the report was opposed to any makeshift or emergency legislation whatever because wholly unnecessary and in favor of a broad commission to prepare and submit a measure which would give to the united states a scientific financial and currency system continuing the report says AB your committee after mature deliberation Is in complete accord with these it herewith presents to the house a bill for the creation of such a commission sanco congress should not delegate lie authority your committee has provided that representatives and senators shall constitute a majority of this commission since Is a science and its movements are controlled by laws certain in their operation your committee has provided for the appointment of alx banking economists on this committee since all classes of our people the farmer the laborer the manufacturer the merchant and the banker are equally interested in a sound financial system and a currency redeemable in gold and always responding to ever varying demands of trade your committee haa provided for representation of those interests upon this commit toe allotting them equally to the natural subdivisions sub divisions of the country so that all interests and all regions may have a part in its work it is the confident belief of your committee that the measure so prepared by such a commission should and wilt find ready acceptance in both houses of cong roas meet the genrty approval of the people conserve and maintain our prosperity and establish the most efficient financial and currency system in the world |
