Show killion dollar plant of nelson morris co in flames kansas city jan 28 fire of unknown origin started in the canning department on the second floor of the twin main buildings ot the two million dollar packing plant of tho nelson morris co plant on the kaw river at kansas city kan tonight threatened the destruction of tho entire plant and caused a loss estimated at before it wag controlled all effort to ea east main building in which the alre started and the box factory was abandoned within a halt hour af the flames were discovered and tho firemen devoted themselves to the saving of the other buildings the building in which it started contained the canning department the coolers the dressing room the wholesale department and the killing beds and the contents supplied the ahre with fuel which made the flames difficult to combat the alre had gained great headway before the department arrived and the heat was so intense chajt it was impossible for the firemen to mako any progress in checking it except to prevent it from spreading the box factory in the rear of tho main building was entirely destroyed the flames also spread to the cattle chutes many of tho cattle being burned tho other main buildings contained ohp general offices and the engine room and much of the salvage from the burned building wag carried into it the nelson morris cos packing plant was the newest in this city having been completed a little loss than two years ago |
