Show Copperfield Celebrates Cele-brates in Old Style Notwithstanding the fact the sky-looked sky-looked cloudy on Saturday morning, last a large number of enthusiastic citizens attended the opening services servic-es of the Fourth of July celebration in Copperfield. The Midvale Jun-ion Jun-ion Band furnished the music through out the day. After a lengthy parade, in which decorated automobiles were prominent, promin-ent, all participating, moved to the large openair pavilion erected opposite oppo-site the Byrne Hotel for the occasion. H. B. Aven of the Miner's Mercantile Mercan-tile Co., called the meeting to order and after the singing of "America," by the audience, the Declaration of Independence was read by H. L. Gar-rity. Gar-rity. Judge Brigham Clegg of Salt Lake City in wonderful oratory spoke of the building up of the United States, including the rise and growth of the Utah Copper mine in his very capable address. E. K. Tappas of Salt Lake City also made a brief speech. At noon, candy was distributed distribut-ed to the children and ice cream to the elders. Altho rain fell throughout the afternoon, the usual races were held, boys and girls with ages ranging rang-ing from 4 to 16 years taking part. The old men's race, the most exciting excit-ing event of the day was won by the former Mayor of Copperfield, "Teddy" "Ted-dy" Byrne. The big free dance on the floor of the openair pavilion was the main feature of the evening and was crowd ed at ail times, many people from Bingham enjoying the freedom of the occasion. The Committe who had charge of the affair are to be congratulated on the success and with such capable volunteers Copperfield will never go short of a successful gathering on the Glorious Fourth. |
