Show EDITORIAL THE FOIKTH The people of Bingham Canyon on Saturday last week, took advantage of the two day holiday, allowed by the mining companies here and tht largest number moved out of camjj to spend their vacation. Altho there are people who say people should stay at home and celebrate Independence Day here. Vet when we look at it correctly, this day thould be something some-thing more than a holiday to us. After John Adams signed the Declaration De-claration of Independence, he wrote to his wife as follows: "1 am apt to believe this day will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, deliv-erance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized sol-emnized with pomip and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bon fires and illuminations, from one end of the continent to the other, from this time forward for ever more." Of late America has been the object of unstinted criticism mostly from the people from within her borders. Some criticise her conservatism, whilt others claim she has cut loose fro.i all the traditions of the elders, and is hastening to moral and political destruction. des-truction. There are those who condom con-dom her aloofness in a world where wholehearted co-operation is intelli- gent streugth seems necessary for the welfare of all; and there art. others who think that she concerns herself too much about other nation, and continents. Her legislators art branded as incompetent and her youth tabbed as pleasure mad and immoral. While there may be a whole lot of truth in these statements yet we believe that America is and ever will be God's country and that person who is not grateful for having hav-ing an existance here should go to that country which they claim is so iar superior. AlAho there are kicks enenating front different sources as to the bum condition of the country yet we doubt if ever in the history of this great copper camp, that things were ever more prosperous for the working classes clas-ses than they are today. Yet we should not make a god of business or wealth. Prosperity also means opportunity for development and service -development of the high est manhood and service to all needy at home and abroad. We often hear of one hundred percent Americanism What does it mean? It means larger souls, purer . hearts, cleaner lives, greater industry, more thrift and in short, doing and being the best of which we are capable. |
