Show THE The new estray law ESTRAY went into elTcct last LAW Tuesday nud wc wish to suggest to constables the pro-prlcty pro-prlcty of securing information from the County Clerk's office , as to whether the animals they arc called upon to sell, have i been properly advertised. It is wdlkuown today that years ago, the practice prevailed I, of publishing false descriptions and false brands- iu order that ,, '. the uwuer might uol know almut ' , his property and thus at the sale j it might be purchased cheaply ' ' j by the taker up. Wc have no Ij knowledge of this being done j now. An officer should refuse j to sell au animal that is not j properly described iu the estray J notice, aud he should sec to it j that the sale is uot made in the case of a proper description tin- til the period prescribed by law lias elapsed. Thtre is auother suggestion: j. It is sometimes the case that wliett a sale is to be made the people of the precinct are uot , encouraged to be present, with j i n view of realizing as much as y, possible for the animal sold; the , notices may be posted but it would be far better if, iu addit- k ion, the officer would, at least f in a casual way, remind those whom he can conveniently see, that a sale is to be made, iu Border that there may be more thau oue bidder. If the atpirit of the law is to be observed, constables will bear this iu mind. Oue more suggestion: Constables Con-stables should remember the county by promptly paying ovrr whatever amount is iu excess of the lawful feed bill and expenses of the sale. |
