Show WEBER FRUIT IS WELL represented AT FAIR although it has not been generally known weber county has been well represented in the state horticultural exhibit at the lewis and clark exposition every week samples of the fruit biown in this county as well as in other parts of the state have been shipped to portland chere they have attracted much attention charles of the state board ot horticulture has had charge of the collecting and shipping of fruit this county and yesterday was in the city looking for some good specimens of grapes and peaches to ship to the fair today from enoch farr he secured an exhibit of grapes and expected that he would be able to find the peaches for which ho was looking during the afternoon in speaking of the state horticultural exhibit mr said tant although the exhibit was small it compared in quality favorably with that of other states and that in gathering samples he had sought quality rather than quantity he said that some of the peaches that had been sent to the fair especially the albertas were the finest that he had ever seen his mentioning peaches brought up the subject of the large size that the fruit had obtained this year the horticulturists have at last learned that it pays to thin the fruit sald mr and although some learned through their trees being thinned hy die frost it has taught them a lesson and peaches of the size of those grown this year can be had aveo year it the trees are thinned the principal samples sent from this coudy have been plums apples grapes and peaches the fair lasts until october 15 and it Is the intention of those who have charge of the fruit exhibit to it up to its present high grade until the last day of the fair |
