Show legislators HAD MONEY ft MADD BIG BANK DEPOSITS DURING SESSION washington feb 28 in the dark bribery case yesterday mr T C kurtz cashier of the montana national bank of helena was put on the stand to give testimony concerning the bank deposits made by members of the last legislature from august 1898 to september 1899 he also brought the accounts of senator dark and mr wellcome all of them were referred to a sub com cittee tor examination the sub on the papers in mr kuntza and mr bellers Pel lers hands completed its work and reported that certain of the documents should be examined these gentle taen were then recalled and the accounts put in all of them related to members of the legislature and were as follows by mr kurtz stephen bywater deposited march 3 1899 E C day deposited march 3 1899 haeil deposited march 20 1899 L C parker two certificates of deposit 1000 each february 1899 W F certificate of deposit may 1899 by mr peller J L jaqueth two deposits aggregating in drafts from the united states treasury J H gieger various memoranda af ter april 12 1899 including a certificate of deposit may mr kurtz explained that the deposit was connected with the opening of the state bank at townsend and that the money had been collected from various quarters representative stephen bywater of flathead FIa thead county being called said that he had deposited the shown by the accounts of the bank of montana as exhibited by cashier kurtz he said that he had brought in currency with him when he came to helena and had kept it in his trunk the sixty days preceding the other did not belong to him but had been handed to him by his brother quite a large part of these two sums was in bills |
