tho readers of these columns we extend a happy new year gathered around the festive board of mr and mrs isidore on christmas day was a happy group who greatly enjoyed with two of the hostess brothers from new york in whose honor the spread was given the bounteous repast skating and bobbing arc deports in which the young folks delight these bracing evenings the merry jingle ot sleigh bells mingled with the joyous happy laughter ot the young aro iho sounds which permeate the air and reach the cars of reveling in the cheerfulness of the happy fireside where the sparkling and invigorating weather finds a reflection in tho warmth and brightness within f one ot the pleasant est affairs of the week was the dance given last night at the second ward educational institute by the Y M M I 1 A the music was furnished by fords orchestra and dancing was kept up till a late hour thursday night the first ward gave a ball which was well attended and greatly enjoyed the genuine colored cake walk at the union opera house on tuesday evening furnished amusement for an immense gathering participating in the cake walk were five couples cou pies and both before and after the walk spectators were given the use of the floor last evening the Y M M I 1 A of the fourth ward gave a dance tor tho of tho association which proved a decided success and a very pleasant affair wednesday last miss mary A iian son became the wife of A L mr and mrs aro ogden residents with a large acquaintance and will be the recipients of much good will the scandinavians numbering almost two hundred spent a moat enjoyable time wednesday evening at the third ward amusement hall music and the serving of delious refreshments caused the evening to pass pleasantly and quickly RECEPTION AND BANQUET the visit of officers from of the evening HUNTER HARMONY CLUB among the performers at the third ward musicale given in the opera house last wednesday evening that de servo especial mention were the young indies of the hunter harmony club by an oversight they were not mentioned in our notice of the entertain acet but the selections they rendered were delightfully musicale and merited praise besides showing cultivated taint a BIRTHDAY celebration last monday evening december 18 mr and mrs henry shaw and daughter rosa charmingly entertained a number of their and mr williams friends at their pleasant home no 1516 washington avenue in honor of mr williams birthday dancing and cards occupied most of the evening the organ and violin furnishing the music mr robert taylor gave the cako walk in a most charming way and also some select songs mrs lilliard favored the party with a step dance and song mr also sand a song although in his native tongue it was highly applauded by all at 13 refreshments were served wednesday evening at the catholic club rooms upon this occasion the Hibernia ns ably demonstrated that they are thoroughly versed in the science of entertaining ard any future announcement of their factory has been as a business enterprise and that says it vas a ball given by the ogden sugar company to its employed emp loyes and the circumstances which brought it about were bets between secretary of the company and the different crews of the factory as to the amount of business each could do on a shift one record after another was broken and finally tho factory led every factory in the united states with a run of 78 tons in twenty four hours and the arrangements tor the parly and ball were placed in the hands of the employed emp loyes the expense to be borne by the company above all things the event yas a sincere testimonial of the 1 harmony of feeling existing between the employer and the employed the I 1 function opened with a little talking secretary presided and sent the
