Show POSSIBILITIES OF NATIONAL HIGHWAY That there is a strong possibility of the United States government appropriating ap-propriating a large sum of money for the construction of a trana-continent-al highway from tho Atlantic to the Pacific coast Is more and more evinced evinc-ed as replies are received from members mem-bers of congress and prominent officials offi-cials throughout the country oxpress their interest in a project of that nature. In the belief that Ogden is on the most favorable ronte acroas the continent, con-tinent, the Weber club is leaving no stone unturned to keep pace with the movement and President H. 3il. Itowo has entered into correspondence with Eeeral relative to the subjecL A letter was received from Congressman Con-gressman Joueph Howell today In which the Utah representative ox-pressed ox-pressed -himself In favor of assuring for Utah a route which will pass- through the central portion of the-j country. He stated that the proposed pro-posed Lincoln memorial trans-contl-! nental highway project Ig receiving much support in the east, the Daughters Daugh-ters of the American Revolution having hav-ing taken the matter up with considerable consid-erable enthusiasm. This organization is In favor or ae-1 lading the old emigrant trail through Ogdea City and northwest around the lake by way of Corlnnc. This old trail was traversed for vears by thousands thou-sands of emigrant trains on route to the gold fields of California and can be traced to the present day through I most of the farming districts of Weber We-ber and Box Elder counties. In the desert places the growth of sag0 brush and grease wood distinguishes distin-guishes the location of the old trail nnd on farms which have been cultivated culti-vated for years It can still be recognized recog-nized bv the nature of the soil. In plowing across the trail, worn-out ox-shoes are frcST'cub' turned up and there is hardly a rancher within a radius of a mllo or more from tho trail through Utah but who has hanging hang-ing about his premises these or similar sim-ilar relics which recalls the pioneer trek across the plains. |
