Show woman's Department if Bi Contest Candidates Have Until November 23 to Snd in One Day's ISi SS? Day's Meim Mut Be in Before Nov. 30a t g -l WLfe Who Saves $5 a Month on Her Husband's Salary ifc )i of $64-Liver Wiirst, Hew Made. U5l jf-ll The Price of Meat. i ? A number of ladles have been tole-jj??)honing tole-jj??)honing to th0 Standard Office that ijJsome of Uie prices given in this dc-? dc-? rf partment savor of hot air. Some have Ik inquired, "Where can we buy a beef Li shank for 10 cents and a mutton t' shank for 15 cents, otc." h Now the wives of Ogden will please 3( remember that the Standard is not ;tjj making the prices and the Standard Jttj must not be held responsible for thorn. Mj' But any lady who doUoils the prices 'mi given can write in a letter and chal-n chal-n lenge the statement made by any per-Wson, per-Wson, or can ask for additional lnfor-mfc lnfor-mfc mation and wo sHall be pleased. Tj Now on the moat question, the Eve-J4 Eve-J4 ning Standard inquired of Ballard & ml Rinker and nlso of the Independent !if Meat company aB to prices of the A cheaper grades of meat and found m that prices quoted by the various la- i W dies to date are all right. For In-!i' In-!i' stance, James Ballard showed our rc- K porter a beef shank for 25 cents. It . ; weighed just nine pounds, with fully ;. five pounds of meat on it. By cutting It In two, one part would probably : weigh 10 cents worth and the other . 15 cents. Often even the 15 cents part would be sold for 10 cents, If : : the buyer was at hand to take It : away. Our reporter was shown a shoulder knuckle for 5 cents. It weighed just 2 pounds or 2 1-2 cents a pound. Fully ' : half of It was meat, and enough bone j to make soup for a small family. Now the question Is how can tho butcher sell meat for 2 1-2 cents per pound, when It costs four times that much dressed and delivered to the butcher shop? A great majority of the people want ; the T bono steaks, porter house r steaks, roast, etc., and of courso they W pay the extra price that is lost on the cheaper grades. !The price of T bono steaks Is fixed by tho demand for them. If the demand de-mand for tho choicest cuts is so great that It is impossible to sell only choice cuts and no demand at all for . the other meats, then the butcher J must charge the price of tho wholo It beef to the choice cuts. If the peo-K peo-K pie want the price of T bone steak cheapor, the way to do is to refuse to 1 buy them, and where the choice cuts 3 . pile up in the butcher shop and all the 4 cheap meats go first, Then, tho butch-V butch-V or will raise the price of the cheaper L grades, and reduce the price of tho m. choice cuts. I But why is everybody crazy in dell de-ll manding the choice meats? A few it days ago a man getting ?S5 a month M bought four porter house steaks, which cost a dollar and 30 cents. An- other man worth 5S0.000 In cash TO stepped up by the side of the first 'jjl mMi and said' "Jim, pivc me four of 3 those round steaks, thev are good enough for me" The first man al-B al-B most fainted. Don't forget that there m is jUFt ns much nourishment in a no 'ad of round steak as in the most B tender tidbit in a beef i5l Will some of our good Ogden wives ifl. tolls us how to make a tough steak M tender?
