Ogden should profit by the decision of the United States supreme court declaring the purchase of the control ofLthe Southern Pacific by the Union Pacific to be a consolidation in restraint of trade and '. ordering the dissolution of the merger. The decision specifically states : that the Union Pacific can acquire the Central Pacific from Ogden to San Francisco and indirectly it recognizes the Oregon Short Line as by right a subsidiary of the Union Pacific, therefore Ogden will con- ' tiuue to bo the hub of the Ilarriman system, ifthe Union Paciric, asf j - - ! - " "" ' - iiig a an Maitij it must necessarily, avails itself of the privilege of making the Central Cen-tral Pacific a part of its line. With the purchase of the Central Pacific, the Union Pacific would affix its name, to all that stretch of road from Ogden to San Francisco Fran-cisco and take over the Southern Pacific shops and terminal at this point, and, following that complete consolidation, there should be some very extensive improvements in Ogden shops and yard. President JMohler of the Union Pacific is a most progressive rail-road rail-road man and Ogden, with full confidence, could welcome any extension exten-sion of his power us an upbuilder of the railroad interests with which ho is identified. |
