Joe was catching and the Little Rock team was a run or two ahead, &nd lc the eighth inning of the game, with New Orleans having two men on the bases, Frank Huelsman hit a liner directly at Bill Hart, the Little Rock pitcher. "The ball hit Hart on the leg and bounced off, directly into the first baseman's mitt," says Joe. "The game was saved, but there has been a continuous argument in the Southern South-ern league slnco then ns to whether tho pitcher was entitled to an assist. Tho ball did not even touch the ground. And oven now you can get up an argument with a Southern league veteran if you mention the play." |
