Show Hl THEY ANSWER THEMSELVES. 1 "We regret that there is not at hand the columns of editorial and H news matter with winch the Republican press, including that part H of it which is now reactionary, proved that Roosevelt was free from H all stain in the Harriman episode. j Furthermore, we regret that the pages of praise for Roosevelt M which were published by the reactionary papers are not available H for reproduction in part to prove that either those papers falsely 1 swore then or are basely deceiving their readers today. 1 No one will deny that Roosevelt was given a certificate of good j character by every Republican paper in the country up to the very H moment that he announced his candidacy early this year. Those H papers which cling to the party right or wrong have reversed them- 1 selves within six months and the somersault, if we interpret their H position correctly, is based on events of several years which had Hl been threshed out and in relation to which Roosevelt had been de- Hj clared to be immaculate. H A constant reader of any one of those papers, who has read H with an open mind, must be sorely perplexed and at times disgust- H ed with the evident contradictions and inexplicable inconsistencies. |
