Show HOW THE CITY IS MAKING MISTAKES Ogden. September 18, 1912. Editor Standard Being a business man Interested in tho development and substantial growth of Ogden " 1 wish you would tell tho business men of Ogden why it is that their employees, viz, the City Engineering Engi-neering Corps stands In the way of business as they do. It Is a well known fact that the! city expcnson are now greater than formerly while tho revenue is less, therefore it Is reasonable to assume that. If tho present administration has the tax payors' Interests at heart, they want to reduce the city expenses ex-penses and this being true, why shoul the city engineer notify business busi-ness men not to ereot sidewalk lights and electric signs lu front of their places of business Electric signs and lights are n thing of beauty and a true mark of advancement and it Is the writers opinion that this hired engineer should be instructed by the Commissioners to encourage the lighting light-ing of the business center. There is also a lot of complaint about the old times method adopted by the present engineer of constructing construct-ing OPEN" GUTTER crossirigs whero traffic Ib frequent as is the case along enst Twenty-fifth street As an excuse ex-cuse for this 18 to 24-inch hole for people to drive through, he says that the covered crossings freeze up. Why don't they adopt this old UmeB plan of open gutter crossings In the extreme northern cities, where they have REAL cold weather? Why, because be-cause they are civilized and recog-nlzo recog-nlzo that tho public is in a stage of civilization that demands some comfort com-fort as well as decotit appearance In such nntrors. Then again, it is noticed no-ticed that plumbers and other corporations cor-porations are allowed to tear up the streets and leavo them to be repaired-by repaired-by the city at the tax payers expense ex-pense whioh of course Is not right and should a private individual leave the streets In the same condition, he would be arrested at once. Thanking you In advance for a reply to this letter through your Inestimable newspaper, news-paper, I am, yours truly (Signed) E, F. GREEN. |
