It seems that the suggestion has borne fruit in respect to tho Utah Hot Springs, north of this city, for the visitor would hardly recognize the resort, re-sort, so great 1ms been the change recently. re-cently. Dr J. D. Morton assumed the management of the springs about four weeks ago, and, while his work of renovation ren-ovation is not complete, already the 'change for tho bettor is noticeable. Dr. Morton han gone about tho work of Improving in a systematic manner and. judging by the difficulties he encountered en-countered in so doing, this had not been done in a decade previously. Walls have been scrubbed and re-plastered, re-plastered, useless doors and windows plastered over, the pools have been cleaned tho fresh coats of cement pui on and the whole interior given a coat of white paint, pleasing to the eye and an excellent roflector of the light The sanitarium pro par and massage rooms have been gone over thoroughly, thorough-ly, making It possible for the patient to take advantage of the sweat room, the turkish, needle and electric baths and, in abort, to provide every possible convenience for the health-seeker. Dr. Morton believes in plenty of illumination il-lumination and to that end end has installed high-power electric lights throughout the building, and an incandescent incan-descent of smaller candle-power has been placed in eacli locker and dressing dress-ing room something which they did not boast before. "My first move," said Dr Morton, "was to order in the neighborhood of six hundred new light globes, for I do not believe in covering, up dirt by-lack by-lack of illumination. "It is a big proposition we ha', e undertaken here and we are not through with our labors yet. However, we hope to complete the task by January Jan-uary 1, and then, with a bright, clean resort, new bathing suits and, in fact, practically new equipment, we will be ready to take care of the public. "Our present plans Include the erecting or an electric sign over the building and the stringing of a doublo row of lights the length of the building build-ing In front, one row on the balcon and the other below. AVe are at present pres-ent negotiating with the street car company for tho construction of a platform opposite the main building for the convenience of patronB alighting alight-ing from or boarding the interurban cars. "It is our Intention to make people who go through Hot Springs by rail awarp that this is a health resort of prominence and character, not a place of questionable repute and of doubtful accommodations." oo |
