In 1570 a decre waB Issued Is-sued wherein tho butcherB were Vex-pressly Vex-pressly enjoined not to 111 treat or use abusive language to the ladies' of this city, or the woraon of low degree, or the servant maids who propose to deal with them. They are on no account ac-count to mock or deride the said ladles, la-dles, women and maids,' but are to receive politely all offers made to ttiem for their goodB."
