Lund, first counselor In the flrat presidency of the Mormon church, passed hi3 sixty-eighth yenr yesterday. In honor of the anniversary a pleasant surprlne party was lender- ed him Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. E. J. D. Roundy of thlfi city, where relatives and friends gathered to pay their esteem to the prominent churchman. One of the features of the entertainment enter-tainment was the presentation of an historical painting to President Lund. Mrs. Lund was presented wlih a portrait por-trait of her husband, painted by Dan Wcggeland. The presentations wore made by Mrs. Roundy on behalf of numerous friends. President Lund has been a member of the Mormon church for fifty-six years. For fifty-two years he has held the office of elder in the Mormon Mor-mon priesthood He was an apostle for twenty-three years and a temple worker for twenty-four years, belnj; In charge most of the tlmo. For twelve years he was church historian, also superintendent of religious classes. class-es. President Lund has filled four mh-sions mh-sions abroad, the laBt being to Palestine Pales-tine and Syria, culminating In his appointment ap-pointment to the first presidency of the church His residence In Utah dates from nearly fifty years ago, during which time' he has filled many Important positions, ecclesiastical and secular. Ho served two terms as leg Islator and was one of the leading workers In the Interest of the Reform school and State Agricultural college. He Is president of the Latler-dny Saints university, regent member of the capltol commission, member of tbo general board of education, and director in the Z C M I .
