SUCCESS "The people of Ogden have grown musically each year, and, if we can hear more such muBic as Haydn's Creation, there will be every leason for a steady musical Interest." Such Is the Judgment of a most competent music crltio of the event last evening which drew to the Ogdon theater one of the most brilliant audiences ever assembled to listen to a musical production pro-duction in this city. It Avas a splendid showing for Og-'deu. Og-'deu. in tho loading parts taken by Ogden people and in attendance. Squir Coop an Ogdenite, surely proved hlmsolf entitled to the place of Hist conductor in the State of Utah. His chorus Bhowed perfect training and the orchestra, well balanced, bal-anced, was at all times completely under his control Tho work was given with unusual smoothness and broudth of interpretation. interpre-tation. Mrs. Maggie Tout Browning an Ogden girl, sang the part of Gabriel Ga-briel splendidly, her beaatlful voice carrying tho difficult part with ease and preoision. She entered Into the spirit of tho work at the beginning and showed no fatiguo through the entire evening. Mr. Frod Smith deservos especial pralso for his ronditlon of tho part of Raphael. His splendid bass voice was very satisfying His recitation work was particularly good. Mr. M. Brines wor in. good voice. Perhaps not quite so pleasing in the part of Uriel, but he sang very well. The air "In Native Worth," was by Car his best number. The choruses, "Awake tho Harp," and "The Heavens Are Telling," were dono with an ensemble of chorus, orchestra or-chestra and soloist far beyond amateur ama-teur work. A piano was brought to the stago, and Miss Lillian Wright, supported by the entire orchestra, prosenteid the Concerto Op. 16 of Edward Grelg. It woo a well Tondered number and won merited applause. A profusion of beautiful floworo was presented to M-Ieb Wright. The chorus conslated of one hun- dred voices in the University Musical Mu-sical society, from Salt Lake, and the full sympony orchestra of sixty musicians was present. An Appreciation. Tho members of the "Creation" company, from first to last, are delighted de-lighted with the splendid reception tendered the oratorio by Ogden and feel that the tremendous labors attached at-tached to the preparation of tho work are repaid. It Is a distinct compliment to tho city and to its social element to hnvo provided a paying audience for a work Btich as tho "Creation." when popular forms of amusement aro the vogue. Ono hundred and fifty people will ?o back to Salt Lake and other parts ot the state with an enviable word for Ogdon. For tho social courtosles extended by the Weber club we arc all sincere-Iv sincere-Iv grateful. (Signed.) SQUIRE COOP, |
