Show RECALLS THE KILLING OF LOCHHEAD In Judge Harris' court this morning morn-ing the trial of tho LochhcaJ vs. Ja-con Ja-con Jensen damage suit was resumed, the following jury having been empaneled: em-paneled: William B. Newman, William A. Harrop, William Fronk, Frank Carr, Hjrum Skeen, John Payne, Henri-Mack Henri-Mack and Elmer C. Jones. Walter E. Sanderson, manager of the Hemenw'ay & Moser Cigar company, com-pany, who was an occupant of the automobile- when Mr Lochhoad was killod. testified on direct examination for tho plaintiff, relating the tragedy as he remembered it Mr, Sanderson said that Mr Jensen drove his ca-to ca-to the front of the cigar store at about 4 o'clock on the afternoon of September Septem-ber fi, 1910. at which time William Lochhead, an employe of the cigar company, suggested to Mr Jensen that he "bo a good fellow and tako me out for a ride " Tho witness stated that Mr. Jonscn readily consented and that "Mr. Lochhead Loch-head insisted that the witness accompany ac-company them Mr Sanderson demurred, de-murred, hut, upon the earnest solicitation solici-tation of Mr Lochhead and Mr Jensen, Jen-sen, he finally Joined in the trip Mr Lochhead had a few bills to colloct in tho vicinity .of. Five Points and Pleasant View and the car was driven driv-en In that direction. At a point near Pleasant View, Mr. Sanderson said, the automobile began skidding, first (o one side and then to tho othor. He became somewhat alarmed and stood up In the rear to get a better view of the road, which seemed to bo rouqh. At this juncture the automobile ran Into a gutter or ditch which was on tho highway and, after a smldcn lurch, It turned turtle. The witness, standing stand-ing upright in the car at the time, was hurled headlong and away from the machine, falling near the fence 10 tho side of th,e road, lie was rendered ren-dered partially Insensible but soon regained sufficient consciousness to hasten to tho rescue of his companions, compan-ions, who were pinned to tho earth by tho car, Lochhead being entirely under un-der the machine and, so far as Mr. Sanderson could tell, ho was dead when ho reached nls side Mr. Jensen Jen-sen was easily fre'od from the wreck but was severely Injured. Tho witness wit-ness then hastened1 to a nearby tele-phono tele-phono and summoned aid from the city. The body of Lochhead was Liken Lik-en to the morgue and Mr. Jensen was conveyed to his hdme |
