This morning ho had succeeded in getting his motor Into proper working order. Ho was seen tljing over St Denis, a small suburb of Paris, where ho made a. rapid descent de-scent from a height of 600 feet. Accounts differ a6 to the cause of tho accident Some of the spectators say that the monoplane struck the telegraph wires along tho railroad track and that Vedrines was thrown out on to tho rails. According to another account a train hit the monoplane as Vedrines was about to land In order to remedy a defect In his motor. The aviator was found to have a fractured skull. He was placed on a train and taken to Paris, whero he was sent to a hoBpltal and the operation of tropan-ing tropan-ing at onco was performed, but his condition is believed to be hopeless. Jules Vedrines had had a remarkable remark-able career as an airman, haing taken tak-en a leading part in many of the groat European races and also created many records. Besides this he has experienced many narrow scapes from fatal accidents. He made a long-distance crosscountry cross-country record from Paris to Angou-lomo Angou-lomo while participating in the Paris-Madrid Paris-Madrid race, which ho won last year. In tho same contest he grazed a mountain peak while on the way to San Sebastion. He was also attacked by an eagle during his flight across the mountains.
