Show NEW C0M1DER HI FORTDUGLaS SALT LAKE, Oot. 19. Major W P-Eurnham P-Eurnham of the Twentieth infantry took command of Fort Douglas today, superseding Major J. M. Arrasmlth of the Fifteenth, by reason of priority of commission, the former having been commissioned major August 20, 1906, and the latter September 11, the same year. Colonel F. B. Jqnes of the Fifteenth Fif-teenth Is the regular commanding officer, of-ficer, but he Is recovering from a broken brok-en leg caused by being thrown from his saddle by a fractious horse, and shortly will go to Hot Springs, Ark., to recover his health. Major Burnham left the military academy at the end of his junior year In 1880 and enlisted in E company. Fourteenth Infantry, whore he presently pres-ently was made a corporal, sergeant, and In July, 1SS3, was commissioned a lieutenant in tho Sixteenth Infantry, with which regiment he was stationed at Fort Douglas In the early '80s. In 1891 Lieutenant Burnham was transferred trans-ferred to the Eleventh Infantry, was transferred to .ho Twentieth In 1895, made captain in 1898, was with tho Ninth Infantry until 1906. when he was made major and transferred to the Seventh infantry, only later to bo sent ba.ck to his only real regimental love, the Twentieth During tho Span i6h wai Major Burnham was liouten ant colonel of the Fourth Missouri He Is a nativo of Pennsylvania, and retires for age January 10, 192-1, so he has a little over 12 years yet to serve. |
