In the view of the interstate commerce commission, com-mission, its connection, through the chairman of the body with mediation and nrbitiatlon proceedings, under the Erdinau act, no longer is deblrable. Chairman Clements presented the matter to President Taft and urged him to recommend an amendment to the Erdman act, providing that no mefnber of the interstate commerco commission should bo charged with tho responsibility of a mediator In wage disputes. Under the existing law the chairman of the commission and the commissioner commis-sioner of labor arc ex-offlcio members of the board of mediation. At the suggestion of President Taft an amendment was Incorporated In tho pending sundry civil appropriation hill, but it was eliminated by tho house on a point' of order, as now legislation. An effort will he made to make a similar amondment to the measure In tho senate. nn |
