A motion wbb presented asked Judgo Rives to direct the jury to deny the young petitioner's claim to $2,500,000 of tho estate, and tho lawyers began a three days' argument ! in support of tho plea Garrett McEuery of San Francisco began the arguments on behalf of the heirs of Baldwin and was followed fol-lowed by Former Governor Henry T. Gage and Bradner W. Lee, who drafted draft-ed the will by which tho old turfman cxpresscdly cut oft with $10 bequests be-quests all claimants excepting his three daughters, Clara Slockcr, Anita McCaughrey and Rosa L. "A grotesque, Incomprehensible, legal le-gal monstrosity" was'McEuery's characterization char-acterization of the claim mado by the girl's mother, Lllllam Ashley Turn-bull, Turn-bull, that she and Baldwin had been married by contract in San Francisco March 3, 1893 McEnery reviewed the evidence, pointing out that the fact of the alleged al-leged marriage rested upon 'Mrs. Turn-bull's Turn-bull's unsupported word alone, and then turning the attack upon the woman direct, he added: Adventuresses and Rich Men's Estates.
